Director's message:

2019 will mark another transformation for CAIS in both services and learning spaces. In 2018, we have focused on curating Open Educational Resources not only for its financial benefit but also to support the University’s’ role in developing the nation’s K-economy. We have placed much effort into nurturing relationship with our users much by engaging with them through joint programs and activities; strengthening our Faculty Liaison; as well as reaching out to them via social media. We have also introduced CAIS Updates to better inform users on the availability of scholarly content, events and activities.

Looking back 2004, our infrastructure was more than sufficient to serve the population of approximately 8000 students. Today, our students are using more than just their laptops. Smartphones, tabs and other gadgets are a constant companion to them. Therefore, a normal scene at the library, airport or just about anywhere is everyone flocking around power outlets. A survey we conducted in 2018 shows that students want a different type of learning space- one that is different from their predecessors. They want quiet, collaborative and inspiring spaces all together! Unfortunately, the current setting is getting in the way of their creativity. As such in 2019 CAIS hopes for some renovation work that can fulfill the hopes and inspiration of our current and future students. Renovations will enable us to re-envision our approach to service provision and user engagement. By creating learning spaces that are both comfortable, practical and inspiring, we hope to truly transform CAIS into the heart of the campus!

Moving forward, CAIS will continue to focus on its digital collection, library workshop design and staff training opportunities through collaboration with faculties and institutes as well as other agencies outside UNIMAS. As we look ahead, we will continue to build and add new spaces and services. We will adopt new technology to enhance user’s experiences in order to provide them with services and facilities of a world-class university library.

CAIS is a dynamic, changing entity with four locations that supports UNIMASs’ academic endeavor. None of this would be possible without the support of its people, top management and users. We ask all of you who love CAIS to continue your support by using our services, and facilities. We also value your feedback and suggestions so that we can continue to strive for excellence. I would like to conclude my remarks by wishing all good health and happiness in 2019!
